#11: Launching your portuguese brain

hi everyone, my name is Seb and welcome back to Pra Caramba, a podcast I created to help you improve your Brazilian accent, one episode at the time.

as Portuguese isn’t my mother tongue, I’m generally not thinking in portuguese so therefore I noticed that sometimes when I would arrive somewhere while living in Brazil, the first few sentences I would speak would be a bit clunkier sounding. Like my brain was a truck having a hard time getting start on a cold morning. This inspired me to come up with a sentence in each language I speak that I just say out loud to warm myself up, before entering a conversation. Nothing very sophisticated, just a sentence that encapsulates the tone, sound and rhythm of that language. I repeat it a couple of times, speaking to myself, and it simply gets my brain and mouth in the zone of that language. Any sentence from the podcast could do.

Now for today’s exercise. if this is your first time listening, my method is very simple: i’ll say a sentence, give you some time to repeat out loud, then we’ll do that three times for each of the sentences. All the sentences are in the episode description so that you can read along. If you’re having trouble with a sentence, hit pause and repeat it as slowly as possible until you get closer, then continue the exercise. As per use, don’t forget to focus on perfecting, not on trying to be perfect.

Let’s go.

Alright, that’s it for today. As always, I recommend sticking to at least one episode per week, repeating it twice a day, back to back, everyday of the week.  If you have any comments or question, let me know in the comments. Thank you so much for listening, see you next time!
